Nick Webb excited for next fight
Undefeated heavyweight prospect, Nick Webb’s (3-0) next scheduled fight has been confirmed as February 12th at the Metropole Hotel in Brighton.
The Scott Welch-promoted event, titled ‘Battle on the Beach’, is headlined by Sussex southpaw Nicky Jenman (14-8-1) in a Southern Area title challenge.
Webb, 28-years-old from Chertsey, commented, “Just want to get out and stay busy and to not have such long periods between fights. I’ve got to get me up there and be a contender as soon as possible.”
Webb was signed to Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions during 2015 until a disagreement over contracts led to his departure on mutual consent.
Disgruntled at only fighting three times in his debut year, which saw all bouts ending in first round knockouts, Webb and his manager Scott Welch requested to leave the promotional outfit. All three of Webb’s opponents were dispatched inside two minutes, one of those victims being Hrvoje Kisicek, who he sent back to the dressing room in just 56 seconds on his pro debut – four times quicker than the current British heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua managed in their meeting in November 2013.
Now, Webb aims to be as busy as possible during 2016 with initial plans to fight in the following month after his February bout, he stated, “My plan is to get out again in March straight away on a London show and that will be my first six-rounder.
“It’s potentially on one of Micky Helliet’s shows that we are looking to be out on, if all goes well with the next fight.”
First of all is Webb’s fourth professional contest on the sixth week of the year to get through, and preparations have been in full swing for some time he confirmed, “I’ve been ticking over and been back in Brighton last week doing track sessions and did some sparring sessions too.
“I’m gonna’ spar with Dereck Chisora and a few Russian guys he trains with soon; we’ll be sorting it out this week.”
Residing in Surrey, Webb makes the 120-mile round trip to train in former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, Scott Welch’s Brighton gym every day.
Welch, a former world title challenger, has managed Webb’s career since spotting him in the amateurs where he won the ABA Novices in 2012 and reached the ABA Elite finals the following year. As a result, the heavyweight prospect benefits from two fan bases in the neighbouring counties of Surrey and Sussex.
“I’ll definitely get a big crowd on the night in Brighton because there’s a lot of people already going from that area,” Nick remarked. “What I need is a lot of support from my end in Chertsey to come out for the first fight of the year.”
The February 12th show promoted by Scott Welch at the Metropole Hotel also features popular Brighton boxer, Lloyd Ellett (18-1), and Shoreham super-lightweight, Marcus Eaton (6-0-1).
Rest of the card to be announced shortly.
