The Wild Card of the Ultimate Boxxer II tournament reveals his strict diet
Farnborough light-heavyweight, Sam Horsfall (2-0), is readying himself for the exciting Ultimate Boxxer II tournament at The Indigo at The O2 on November 2.
Comprising of a completely different format to anything else, the 25-year-old needs to get his training and nutrition routine just right to suit fighting up to three times in one night.
The Frimley Boxing Club fighter disclosed his diet plans exclusively to BBN:
Breakfast
4:45am: Training session with trainer at Frimley ABC consisting of fitness training
6:30am: Start work (scaffolding)
7:00am: Porridge and mixed bag of fruit (melon, apple, banana)
Snacks: Fruit, Belvita bar
Lunch
11:00am: Haddock with spinach, avocado and asparagus
4:30pm: Finish work
Dinner
5:30pm: Omelette with vegetables
7pm: Training session consisting of 45 minutes non-stop HIIT work
Hydration
Green tea in the evenings
Four litres of water per day
Sam Horsfall: “I stay away from all meat, especially red meats. I find that red meat takes longer to digest, so I find it far better to eat light food, so you feel lighter within yourself. When you eat a steak, you want a lay down afterwards! I sometimes include chicken in my diet but it’s nearly always fish.
I always stick to same diet, sometimes I add or take something away if it’s needed; for example, I might find kale is better than spinach, so I’ll swap them over. I always stay around the same formula but find that I can improve it from time to time. I have just started drinking pomegranate tea because I find that it is very refreshing and good for you and has a bit of flavour.”
Sam's tips: “My tips for dieters out there is don’t slack. Everyone struggles with a diet at first but stick with it and it will eventually kill the cravings you have once your body gets used to the intake. Get through the first two weeks and it’ll get easier from there. Cut out red meat, white bread, white pasta and stodgy carbs and you will instantly see a difference. Give yourself a balance as well, so eat 80% clean food and allow 20% treats, for example.”
Ultimate Boxxer II takes place on November 2 at The Indigo at The O2 and features former English light-heavyweight champion Joel McIntyre (17-2); John ‘Johnboy’ McCallum (11-1), a seven-time national amateur champion from Edinburgh with only one loss on his pro record coming through injury; the highly-touted unbeaten 6ft 6in Shakan Pitters (7-0), 29 from Birmingham; courageous Dec ‘Kyd Nytro’ Spelman (12-1) who returns to the biggest stage yet since his tragic fight with the late Scott Westgarth; Southern Area title contender Jordan Joseph (7-2-1); British Challenge belt champion ‘Dazzling’ Darrel Church, (7-2-1); Frimley’s fledgling pro Sam Horsfall (2-0), widely considered as the wildcard after turning professional only earlier this year; and Paddy Fitzpatrick’s protégé ‘Sniper’ Sam Smith (5-1).
Love Island’s Idris Virgo (2-0) also appears as he takes part in his third pro fight on the undercard in his first appearance in the ring since his stint on TV’s most popular reality TV show.
The lucrative £50k prize money and the newest prize in boxing, the sought-after golden robe bestowed personally by Ricky Hatton, await the winner of the ground-breaking new tournament that mixes sport with youth culture and entertainment, with Britain’s biggest DJ Charlie Sloth in attendance alongside many other special guests.
Founded on a desire to make the professional game more accessible for boxers and fans alike, Ultimate Boxxer II will be shown on multiple platforms for all generations, with live coverage on Facebook via UNILAD from 8.15pm, before going live on Freeview on Channel 5Spike from 10pm.
