Tyson Fury could face Tom Schwarz in Vegas next
In the first fight of the landmark mega-money ESPN deal, 'The Gypsy King' Tyson Fury (27-0-1, 19KOs) could face WBO No.2 Tom Schwarz (24-0, 16KOs) in June in Las Vegas.
An official announcement regarding Fury's fight will be made this Saturday during Top Rank's ESPN televised card headlined by Kubrat Pulev vs Bogdan Dinu from California.
The 30-year-old Briton has already announced he will fight in Las Vegas, rumoured to be held at the Thomas Mack Center, and reports have suggested he will take on an unbeaten German prospect.
Schwarz stands at 6ft 5ins and has won 16 of his 24 bouts inside the distance, but he has not fought at world level and a fighter of Fury's calibre would be a huge step up for him.
Fury is fresh off the back of a £80million ESPN deal and was expected to take a rematch with WBC champ Deontay Wilder after a controversial draw, but conflicting TV deals seem set to jeopardise any negotiations for now, much to the dismay of fight fans. Although promoter Frank Warren promised fans Fury would face a top five fighter in his next fight and has delivered on that.
Asked about his plans for the year, Fury told MTK Global: “Vegas next baby! We want Vegas next to give the fans something to travel to for an event this summer. That’s what we want and what we’re gearing up to.
“I can’t wait for my date and next fight, I want to be back in action immediately and I’m ready to rock and roll.
“At this level it’s hard to get loads of fights. I want three fights minimum, but the longer it goes into the year the more unlikely that becomes.
"It is what it is, it’s boxing at the highest level and that’s the way it’s always been."
