Background
The unbeaten 'Gypsy King', based in Morecambe, has held the lineal heavyweight title since November 28, 2015, the night he ended the decade-long championship run of Wladimir Klitschko. Following over two years of inactivity, he returned to action in June 2018, inspiring millions with a comeback that saw him fighting for the world title within six months of his June 2018 comeback victory over Sefer Seferi in Manchester. The only blemish on his record – a disputed December 2018 draw against Wilder – was avenged with stoppage wins over the American star in February 2020 and October 2021. Fury further defended his green and gold belt twice more to fellow Brits Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora in 2022.
Oleksandr Usyk made history when he became the first undisputed cruiserweight champion in a four-belt era in 2018. A feat he is now attempting to surpass against Fury on the 119th day of the year. The unified heavyweight champ defeated Fury's domestic rival Anthony Joshua twice to set up this undisputed showdown, which will see the winner make boxing history once more.
Undercard Highlights
The undercard is yet to be announced but you could expect to see the likes of WBA 'Regular' world champion Daniel Dubois and heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma.
Quotes
Promoter Frank Warren: “The fight will take place 100% the last Saturday in April. Where it takes place I genuinely think will be determined within the next six or seven days.”
Predictions
Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: “Right now, I would back Tyson Fury to be too big and strong for Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian is a pure boxer with bags of talen, skill, heart, experience and solid chin which has seen him succeed in the heavyweight division where many suspected the former cruiserweight wouldn't. However, in Fury, he has a far more intelligent boxer than Joshua, also bigger and stronger too, so he can't expect the same fight or result. Fury will use his assets where AJ didn't, so Usyk is in for a far harder night with Fury than he had with Joshua. I predict Fury to win on points.”
