Fury vs Whyte status
The WBC provided a further update on the status of Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte:
The World Boxing Council has received requests from the teams of Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, to extend the period of free negotiations to finalize the fight. If there is no agreement, a purse bid will be held this coming Wednesday, January 26th.
Last week, the purse bids were extended from Tuesday to Friday, and now they have neen delayed further still.
Only last Monday, promoter Bob Arum provided an update in what is now a long, drawn-out battle with the World Boxing Council, with the governing body ruling there would be a 80/20 purse split in Fury's favour if it goes to purse bids and Whyte's camp pushing for an unrealistic 55/45 split in the champion's favour and looking to contest the WBC's ruling.
Arum warned the mandatory challenger that “If Dillian Whyte is not gonna fight for whatever reason, obviously we’re not gonna keep Tyson Fury, not gonna make him pay the price of waiting.
“Fury wants to fight and wants to fight sooner rather than later. We can look around, get a good, decent opponent for him to fight if Whyte isn’t available. You’ve got guys like Robert Helenius and Manuel Charr.
“You just look at the rankings and pick a couple of guys from the rankings who would make decent opponents.”
