Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora set to complete trilogy
Promoter Frank Warren confirmed Fury vs Chisora 3
'The Gypsy King' Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23KO) and Derek 'WAR' Chisora (33-12, 23KO) are all set to complete their trilogy on December 3 in Cardiff.
Hall of Fame promoter, Frank Warren, told iFL TV the fight was definitely on, "Derek might give him more of a fight than Anthony Joshua – I just think he is more vulnerable."
The heavyweight rivals first met over 11 years ago in July 2011 for Chisora's British and Commonwealth titles. Fury was the challenger, undefeated in 14 fights, and he dethroned the Londoner in his home city at Wembley Arena with a dominant unanimous decision victory – 118-111, 117-112, 117-112.
They met again, around three years later in November 2014, this time with the European title on the line as well as the British, which Fury again won but this time via a conclusive 10th round stoppage. Chisora's corner withdrew their man after such a one-sided beatdown from the Morecombe man. It was this 23rd professional victory that earned Tyson's shot at WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO World champion Wladimir Klitschko.
The heavyweight pair share the same number of knockouts on their records, but that's where the similarities end. Fury is unbeaten in 33 bouts and has won every single world title available, including The Ring Magazine belt twice, becoming only the third heavyweight in history, along with Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali, to do so; Chisora has 12 losses on his 45-fight record and failed in his one and only world title challenge a decade ago.
It's the second time in his career that Chisora has been awarded a world title shot. In 2012, he challenged Vitali Klitschko for his WBC strap, even after losing to Robert Helenius previously. This time, Del-boy has a fine 12-round victory over Kubrat Pulev to take him into the fight with Fury.
38-year-old Chisora has 33 wins and 12 losses, losing to current IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in 2020 before back-to-back defeats to New Zealander Joseph Parker.
34-year-old Fury said, "In my opinion, Chisora at least got a draw with Usyk. So, I see Chisora every bit as dangerous as Usyk – if it is Chisor [I fight next]. Did you watch that fight? It was a very good fight, very close, and I thought Chisora deserved the draw, minimum. So, Chisora is no pushover, and if you're not on your A game, Dereck will beat you to f***."
Manuel Charr has also been in the running to fight Fury in December, indicating last month a deal had been agreed. Charr, 37, has fought just twice in the last five years. After a fight between Fury and Joshua fell through so spectacularly last year, there appeared to be renewed hope when the former offered his British rival a shot at this WBC title last month.
Joshua accepted Fury’s demands of a 60-40 split of the fight purse and for the fight to take place on December 3, but Queensberry Promotions George Warren blamed Matchroom Boxing's lack of communication for the breakdown in negotiations.
Joshua, who suffered defeat to Usyk in their August rematch, is also expected to fight before the end of the year with December 17 the likely date for his return.
