Undisputed – Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo clash on September 30th
Canelo-Charlo collision confirmed
Through social networks Saul Canelo Álvarez (59-2-2, 39KO) announced that he will fight Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19KO) for the undisputed super middleweight crown, on September 30.
Both boxers are undisputed champions, they have each experienced losses and draws, and share a similar KO ratio.
After triumphing against plucky Briton John Ryder at the Akron stadium in Jalisco, Mexico, in May, 32-year-old Canelo will return to the United States to defend his 168-pound championships for the third time and, on this occasion, against one of the currently undisputed champions in the weight category below.
Jermell Charlo, 33, the undisputed super welterweight champion, has built an impressive track record, coming into this fight, after stopping tough Argentine Brian Castaño in a thrilling rematch.
The American 'Iron Man' has a record of 35-1-1, with 19 knockouts, and it will be his debut at super middleweight. Among his most impressive rivals have been Brian Castaño, Austin Trout, Gabriel Rosado, and Tony Harrison.
Canelo has a 7-1-1 record in fights during the month of September, including victory against Gennady Golovkin, in Las Vegas. His only loss to date was against generational great Floyd Mayweather in 2013.
The fight follows Canelo’s three-fight deal with promoter PBC after his contract with Matchroom Boxing recently ran out.
