A trio of JE Promotions fighters will all be appearing on Dennis Hobson’s ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ show at Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield on July 29.
Sheffield’s Rod Smith (7-1), Doncaster’s Kyle Fox (1-0) and Staffordshire’s Chris Reyes (0-0) will all be finishing off the season seeking a win on the 210th day of the year.
It’ll be the first fight back for middleweight Rod Smith in 20-months and first appearance as a JE Promotions fighter after leaving Richard Poxon’s stable to sign a three-year contract with Joe Elfidh.
‘Razor’ is now training with Robbie Sivyer at the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington.
The Sheffield-born boxer’s only career loss came at the hands of Welshman Tom Doran in the third-round of their final eliminator for the British middleweight title in November 2015, which was Smith’s last appearance in the square ring.
Smith’s best scalp so far is a points win over two-time Commonwealth title contender Liam Cameron in just his fifth fight in December 2013.
Yorkshire amateur boxing champion Kyle Fox (1-0) will also be on the performing on the same show, eager to double his win tally against 36-year-old Scott Hillman (0-19) from Eastbourne.
Fox dazzled in his pro debut back in March in Worksop on a JE Promotions event with a points win over the experienced Kieran Grey (8-61-2).
The 23–year-old middleweight from Doncaster proved to be a sharpshooter, deploying an array of flashy combinations despite giving away a few pounds in weight to his super-middleweight counterpart from Shropshire.
Lastly, Staffordshire’s Chris Reyes (0-0) makes his eagerly-awaited pro bow.
The Filipino super-bantamweight will make his mark in the paid ranks against stable-mate Ricky Leach (3-20-1) from Margate.
27-year-old Leach is also signed to the JE Promotions stable and will give any debutant plenty to think about on their inauguration to the paid code.
Elfidh has high hopes for Reyes, previously stating that he will be knocking on the door for titles in just a few fights time.
No Retreat No Surrender
The 10-fight card was originally due to be headlined by Commonwealth middleweight champion Sam Sheedy in his first title defence against Sheffield compatriot Liam Cameron, however, an injury to ‘Speedy’ has delayed the derby for later in the year.
Despite the postponement of the bill-topping encounter, the scheduled show will still go ahead as planned, with plenty of local talent being showcased.
Promoter Dennis Hobson commented, “Sam O’Maison will fight for a belt, as will Loua Nassa, so those two will now top the bill.
“It’s a shame the original headliner has fallen through, but it’s still a big card and plenty of entertainment for everybody.”
Appearing will be Sheffield fighters Sam O’Maison; Loua Nassa; Joss Paul, and Tommy Frank. Also on the bill are Rotherham’s Nav Mansouri; Newcastle’s Scott Westgarth; Leeds’ Denzil Browne Jr; and Hull’s Tom Knight.
