The WBC pays tribute to the great Alfonso Zamora
The great Alfonso Zamora (33-5, 32KO) sadly passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, remembered not only as an incredible world champion boxer but also as loving father, grandfather, and husband. The WBA and Lineal bantamweight champion's five losses all came within the last nine bouts of his career.

In an emotional tribute, the WBC and the entire boxing family recognized the great former world champion Alfonso Zamora, a man who raised the name of Mexico, who always gave spectacular performances, including the unforgettable battle of the “z” with another great Carlos Zarate.
Zamora, who won the Olympic medal in Munich 72, was extremely moved by this great surprise that his boxing family prepared for him, as it is something he did not expect and that fills him with joy, as he recognized that boxing is his life and that thanks to this sport reached his dreams, met the world and received the affection of the people.
The king of the bantamweights received a green and gold bracelet from the hands of the top official of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, so that he always remembers the love and admiration that the boxing family has for him.
