WBC fans can earn a coin from Russell Jr vs Magsayo
The first fight for a WBC world title this year will take place on Saturday, January 22, and the World Boxing Council are marking the occasion by giving one lucky follower a commemorative coin of the event – Coin of the Realm!
World Boxing Council featherweight champion, Gary Russell Jr, will defend his title against his mandatory challenger, Filipino Mark Magsayo, this Saturday at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Gary Allen, who is known as Gary Jr, has two brothers who have also shone in boxing and who will soon seek to become world champions – super lightweight Gary Antuanne and bantamweight Gary Antonio.
Gary Jr. has been a professional since 2009 and amassed a record of 31-1, including 18 KOs. His only loss was against Ukrainian southpaw Vasyl Lomachenko in 2014, which one judge scored a draw.
For his part, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo (23-0, 16KOs) is a protégé of Manny Pacquiao and Sean Gibbons, with whom he signed a three-year contract in 2020. He is young, confident, with raw power.
Born in Tagbilaran City, Leyte, Philippines, Mark turned pro in 2013 and is trained by Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym. Mark’s biggest win was on August 21 last year when he scored a powerful knockout of Julio “Pollito” Ceja, in what was a WBC elimination fight to gain this opportunity.
Follow the WBC social networks to discover how to win this commemorative coin during their first championship match of 2022. It's going to be right on the money… to coin a phrase.
