The WBC and INMEGEN sign an agreement for health and sport
During a press conference at the facilities of the National Institute of Genomic Medicine, the World Boxing Council and INMEGEN signed an important collaboration agreement with the aim of working together for health and sport in Mexico.
For Dr. Luis Alonso Herrera Montalvo, Director General of INMEGEN, this agreement is historic, as he is convinced that it will make a change in all health and prevention programs of Mexico, as to work together with various institutions to improve public health in Mexico through its athletes. An example that should be replicated in all areas.
He thanked the WBC and its President, Mauricio Sulaimán, for thinking of INMEGEN as part of this social movement in favor of health and well-being.
The WBC Leader was clear in saying that the most important thing for the organization has always been to safeguard the safety and health of its boxers, which is why they have focused on various responsibility campaigns for a long time. Many of them are specifically focused on prevention and awareness of the dangers of drug use.
Finally, the time came to express this commitment and in front of the guests of honor the monarchs Mariana Juárez, Carlos Cuadras, Dr. Carmen Fernández Casares, general director of youth integration centers, Héctor Sulaimán, Dr. Alfredo Hidalgo Miranda director of research and Deputy Emanuel Reyes Carmina, President of the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Dr. Luis Alonso Herrera Montalvo, General Director of INMEGEN and the President of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, signed this collaboration agreement.
To end the event, a motivational talk was held with Mariana Juárez and Carlos Cuadras speaking respectively of their struggles and how they`ve been able to defeat them.
Mariana addressed the listeners with the genuine concern of seeing children and young people get lost in social networks and the standards that they have been setting.
She was emphatic when talking about the benefits of boxing not only in the physical aspect, but also as a mental health discipline, which allows the harmonious development of the individual.
However, the talk that moved the most, was the one offered by former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Rocky Herron, who with a no punches pulled presentation spoke about the dangers and the dire consequences of drugs abuse.
Rocky Herron, took us to the depths of his experiences, sharing the pain and shocking stories of thousands of young people who have lost their lives due to drugs, but not only that, of babies who are born affected by their mothers’ consumption. Little ones who unfortunately suffer from the first day of birth the withdrawal syndrome and that leads them to suffer excruciating pain that doctors can only control with doses of morphine.
During this talk that turned out to be a harsh confrontation with reality, Herron confessed with shame that the United States is one of the largest consumers of drugs and not only that, but this consumption has also been increasing year after year, he even revealed that only in the last year they have lost more than 90 thousand lives due to overdoses.
Herron stressed that this problem does not respect race, families, genders, beliefs or ages… it can happen to anyone.
