Sandy Ryan picks up big win in Milan
Sandy Ryan (2-0, 1KO), a former amateur standout from Derby, Lancashire, England, showed her best in the fourth-round stoppage of the Montenegrin journeyman Aleksandra Vujovic (4-15-2, 2KOs).
There was a real display of skills and power by the British fighter. Ryan, 28, punctuated her dominance in the fourth, twice dropping the taller opponent with smashing left hands to the liver section. Vujovic, 30, was in no position to continue after the second knockdown. Time of the stoppage – just her second in a career – was 1:47 of the fourth stanza. Ryan is now 2-0, 1 KO.
The 28-year-old talent took to Twitter to tell fans, "2-0 with a 4th round KO. Back out before the end of the year. Thank you for all the support."
The Matchroom Boxing fighter won gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, to go with bronze medals at the European Games in 2015 and European Championships in 2016. Sandy also owns a World Championships silver medal (2014).
There was another fourth-round KO on the same night, but this occasion it went against the Brit abroad, as Craig 'The Iron' O'Brien (13-3 1KO) was stopped by unbeaten Nigerian Samuel Nmomah (16-0, 5KOs) midway through their eight-round middleweight contest. That's the Dubliner's third defeat, with previous losses to Anthony Fowler and Kieron Conway.
