The biggest names in one of the biggest industries in the world
Sports betting is one of the biggest industries in the world, worth hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Despite that, not many of the biggest names in sports betting are known outside betting circles. They are some of the biggest innovators in the industry and have been over the last few decades, and there are quite a lot of them. They compete against newer entrants and thus must offer something unique, that keeps them at the top of the game. So, today, we’re going to look at some of the biggest names in sports betting from across the world.
Let’s get started.
1. International Game Technology
The single largest sports betting name at the moment is the International Game Technology company. They are headquartered here in the UK, in London, and bring in annual revenue of around $4.69 billion. They have offices around the world.
The company itself produces a variety of products such as slot machines and gambling technology. They have been operating since 1990 and currently employ around 12,000 people. They, for the most part, make their revenue not from offering betting services to consumers but in providing the equipment for other operators.
By revenue, as of 2022, they are by some way the largest name in sports betting in the whole world.
2. Entain
Headquartered on the Isle of Man, GVC holdings (now Entain) was founded in Luxembourg back in 2004. They are licensed to operate in 18 countries at present, and generated revenue totalling $4.33 billion in 2022. This makes them the second biggest name in sports betting in the world, still several hundred million dollars behind IGT.
Entain operates a wide variety of well known names in the sports betting industry, such as Ladbrokes Coral, Betboo, and VistaBet. They have brought a great many names and brands under their umbrella over the years, and this is what has enabled them to reach the heights they have.
Indeed, mergers are extremely common in the betting industry, and almost always lead to a better outcome for all parties involved as games are monopolized.
3. Scientific Games
Founded in 2000 and currently headquartered in the betting capital of the world, Las Vegas, Scientific Games is another company which provides products and services to other gambling operators. They specialise in mechanical and computerised slot machines, as well as a variety of lottery services.
They brought in $3.66 billion in revenue in 2022, making them one of the giants of the global industry.
4. Bet365
Also founded in 2000, in Stoke-On-Trent, Bet365 is perhaps one of the most instantly known and recognizable names in the sports betting industry. They made around $3.9 billion in revenue in 2022, and currently employ almost 5,000 people.
They offer some of the most varied and robust sports betting services in the country.
5. Flutter Entertainment
Finally we have Flutter Entertainment. They were founded as recently as 2016, and are headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. In 2022 they made an estiated $2.64 billion, making them not quite the same giants as some of the others on our list, but nonetheless one of the largest sports betting companies in the world.
They again operate and own a variety of gambling brands and names, such as BetFair and Paddy Power. They are one of the biggest names in sports betting.
Without doubt these are the giants of the sports betting industry throughout the world. The market is huge, and broadly distributed, but plainly these companies take the lion’s share of global sports betting revenue. They are, by revenue, the biggest names in sports betting and even if you haven’t heard of them by name, you will have heard of the services they run.
