His last 10 championship contests have all ended by KO. No one has been able to last the distance with the 35-year-old triple champ since 2016, seven years ago now.
The Ring Magazine belt, bestowed only upon the winner of when No.1 meets No.2 in a division, has been vacant since Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired in 2015.
Ever since Crawford captured the WBO welterweight title in his first fight at 147 pounds in June 2018, there have been calls for a bout against Spence. For years, due to promotional problems, it failed to ripen to fruition.
Spence, who holds the WBC, IBF and WBA titles, last fought in April 2022, picking up a 10th-round TKO victory over Yordenis Ugas in Arlington, Texas.
Crawford comes into this fight after defeating Shawn Porter by technical knockout in the 10th round.
