Ted Cheeseman vs Scott Fitzgerald to take place by July
Fight purse bids for the British super-welterweight championship between champion Ted Cheeseman (15-0, 9KOs) and challenger Scott Fitzgerald (13-0, 9KOs) have been called by midday on April 10, with the contest to take place before the end of July 2019.
Following Anthony Fowler's loss to Scott Fitzgerald on March 30, the Stewards withdrew his name from the prevously called purse bids in place of 'Fitzy' after his shock victory.
The 27-year-old from Preston came from behind to weather the storm against bitter rival Fowler and pulled it out of the bag in the 10th and final round when he connected on the way in with a sharp right uppercut followed by three left hooks to drop the Liverpudlian, who was heavily favoured to win with the home advantage.
'The Big Cheese' Ted Cheeseman, 23 from Bermondsey, will defend his Lonsdale belt for the first time since winning the strap in October last year, with a UD points win over Asinia Byfield (14-1).
In his previous fight, the Millwall FC fan stepped up a level against unbeaten Spaniard Sergio Garcia (29-0) for the European super-welterweight title and was outclassed for the full 12-rounds, resulting in his first defeat as a paid puncher.
He'll now come back down to domestic level in a maiden defence of his Lonsdale belt against the new WBA International super-welterweight titlist Scott Fitzgerald, which is the belt previously held by Cheeseman.
