South London derby adds spice to Southern Area championship clash

Shaquille Day (12-0, 2 KOs) will tackle fellow south Londoner Louis Adolphe (10-1, 1 KO) for the Southern Area welterweight crown on #MTKFightNight in Brentwood on July 20.

‘The Black Mexican’ collides with Londoner Adolphe for the vacant crown at the Brentwood Centre – live on iFL TV – having impressed with two stoppages in his last three contests.

Day, 25 from Bexley, said: “I’m excited for my first title fight. I’m going down the traditional route which is nice. So many accomplished fighters started with the Southern Area, then English, then British.

“I hope to follow in the footsteps of some great fighters but we’ll look to win this title and then see where it takes us from there.

“I know Adolphe and he won the Senior ABAs. He can really box. He’ll look to outbox me and keep it behind the jab but we can both do that so let’s see who has the better skills and put it together on the night.

“Let’s see what he can do when it counts and at the pace I’ll set. Let’s see what he can do then.

“The south London derby gives it an extra edge. This is a 50-50 fight and it’s my time to shine under those lights. I’ve got to do the business and show people what I’m about.

“This is just the first of many titles for me. We’re going to collect every title we can but first thing’s first – we’ve got to prove we can win titles starting with this one. We’ve got good skills and concentration. This is definitely the start of something big,” concluded Day, who recently signed with MTK Global.

Also starring on the Essex venue’s first show to be broadcast on ESPN+ is a WBA International super-bantamweight title clash between world-ranked stars Neslan Machado and Alexander Mejia, plus former world title challenger Liam Walsh and WBC-ranked welterweight Michael McKinson.

A lengthy undercard of fighters hoping to steal the limelight includes Jamie Whelan, Lenny Fuller, Lewis Smith, Jack Martin, Randal Barlow, Michael Elliott, Joe Hurn and Frank Arnold.
