Souleimane Mohammedi conquers the WBC Youth title
Frenchman Souleimane Mohammedi (11-0-1, 1KO) defeated Colombian Jairo Delgado (8-1-0, 8KO), conquering the World Boxing Council Middleweight Youth World title.
20-year-old Mohammedi, who is one of the brightest prospects in France, dominated the tough and durable Colombian fighter in a great fight.
Delgado, 23, was unbeaten in eight bouts with all eight wins coming by knockout, and he did not stop looking for a ninth KO throughout the fight, but Souleimane’s intelligence and high boxing IQ was reflected in the Judges’ scorecards: 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72.
Mohammedi is now unbeaten in 12 bouts with his first professional title secured around his waist. The WBC Youth middleweight belt was last held by Irishman Aaron McKenna, and other big name holders have included Gilberto Ramirez, who went on to win the WBO super-middleweight title for three years; Chad Dawson, who went on to win WBC, IBF and IBO light-heavyweight belts; and Christian Mbilli, who is undefeated in 23 and defends his WBA International and WBC Continental super-middleweight titles tomorrow night in Canada read more…
