Sohail Ahmad tackles Commonwealth title contender this weekend
London-based Afghan Sohail Ahmad (13-1-1, 5KOs) looks to break into championship class at the famous York Hall, Bethnal Green on Saturday night (December 14).
Manager Mickey Helliet has matched the 31-year-old from West Brompton with Benson Nyilawila (10-2, 6KOs) over 10×3 welterweight rounds.
British fans remember the Tanzanian talent losing to Philip Bowes (18-3) for the vacant Commonwealth super-lightweight championship last February, after he touched down twice in the second round.
Bowes is also managed by Helliet and Ahmad says he has his former stablemate's achievements in his own sights.
They have sparred together inn the past and Ahmad is convinced he has can replicate the championship success that Bowes has accomplished.
'Showstar' believes he would too strong for most at 147lbs and he can take a step nearer clinching a title fight with an impressive performance this weekend.
Nyilawila has only lost at championship level in his 12-fight career, while Ahmad is unbeaten in his last seven bouts, a Southern Area title contender, and in Richard Williams, he has a former Commonwealth champion in his corner.
The main event on the night will be Quaise Khademi (7-0) vs Pedro Matos for the #WBO European super-flyweight title.
Former British champion Johnny Garton (23-2-1) also appears.
