Nina Hughes targeting titles in the near future
Nina Hughes is all set for her second professional contest when she takes on Bec Connolly on Friday's #MTKFightNight – and the female sensation wants to move at a rapid speed as she looks to target titles in the near future.
Hughes (1-0) meets Connolly (3-11) as part of the stacked card headlined by Danny Dignum’s WBO European middleweight title defence to Grant Dennis at York Hall in London this week, which will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.
Hughes brought a stellar amateur career into the paid ranks when she made a successful debut in December, and she believes that experience can help her challenge for titles sooner rather than later.
Hughes said:"I'm excited to go out again on such a big card, especially after my debut which couldn't have gone any better.
"I really enjoyed my debut. I was a bit nervous about boxing without a head guard for the first time, but once I was in there it was fine. After boxing amateur for so long I never thought I'd turn professional, but with all the success recently I thought I can't not give this a go.
"I boxed for Team GB and won seven national titles, and now this is the next step for me. I've had some good feedback so that is definitely encouraging to hear those nice comments, and I believe with the right opportunity I can win titles.
"This is an exciting division to be in at the moment, and I'll hopefully get the big fights soon. I want to be moved as quickly as possible, and I think my amateur pedigree puts me in good stead.
"It's Bec Connolly next, and I won't back down from anybody. Whoever they put in front of me I will fight, and I trust my team to put me on the right path."
Elsewhere on Friday’s card, undefeated sensation Lee McGregor returns against Diego Alberto Ruiz, Bilal Fawaz makes his professional debut against Vladimir Fleischhauer, Joe Giles meets Lewis van Poetsch, plus Jordan Flynn, Paul Ryan and George Mitchell are all in action.
