Martinez wins War of the Rose in Spain
Former world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martínez (54-3-2, 30KOs) from Argentina, returned to the ring at age 46, to defeat Englishman Brian Rose (32-7-1, 8KOs) by unanimous decision, in the main fight at the Plaza de Toros de Valdemoro, in Madrid.
A 10-round contest at 160 pounds was won by “Maravilla” Martínez with Judges' score cards of 96-94, 96-94 and 97-94.
The fight was keenly contested. The Argentine boxer, born in Quilmes and living in Madrid, weathered a bad moment in the second round, but he recovered and imposed his greater experience.
Martinez dropped Rose in the eighth round, but the British boxer quickly got back to his feet.
Martinez, who was the promoter of the card with his company Maravillabox Promotions, improved his record to 54-3-2, with 30 knockouts.
