Oleksandr Usyk will defend titles to Daniel Dubois if Tyson Fury's side do not take this opportunity
Speaking to Safe Betting Sites, Sergey Lapin – who works closely with heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk – has called out Tyson Fury and his team for doing all he can to avoid clashing with the Ukrainian in an undisputed heavyweight clash.
He also questioned Fury’s courage to fight the best of the best, and names who Usyk’s next opponent could be if the clash of the titans fails to be made.
Lapin stated, “As it stands, the great Tyson Fury, the seven feet tall giant who tells the world he avoids no man, seems to be doing everything he can do to avoid an undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk.
“He calls Oleksandr a rabbit and a middleweight, and yet Alex is here ready and willing to prove he's the best heavyweight in the world. Meanwhile, Fury seems to have lost his courage and lost his pen.
“Quite a lot of time has now passed since his fight with Dereck Chisora. And, apart from brief conversations, we are yet to receive an offer.
“We’re waiting on a contract and, so far, there seems to be no desire from Team Fury to make this fight happen. Oleksandr declared from the very beginning he’ll fight Fury any time and any place.
“But it seems to me that Tyson ‘Belly’ Fury see's Usyk as far too much of a risk.”
Usyk is coming off back to back points wins over another Brit – Anthony Joshua.
“Fury should look at the courage his countryman Anthony Joshua showed when he twice fought Alex,” Lapin advised.
“Fury should borrow some of Joshua's courage because at this point in time, I think it's more likely we will see the fourth Fury-Chisora fight before we see Usyk face Fury.”
He then concluded with a curve ball when he revealed there is a willing opponent waiting in the wings, “If in the near future, if Fury's side do not take this opportunity, then perhaps Usyk will instead defend his belt against Daniel Dubois.
“Dubois is the type of guy that has the courage to enter the ring and holds no fear. We hope that in the near future the boxing teams will reach an agreement and this historic event will take place.
“We want this fight to happen and we want to find out who is the real Heavyweight champion. We believe it's Usyk and maybe, on some level, Tyson Fury knows this too.”
