"Everything is going to be ok", says fallen fighter Scott Fitzgerald
Former British super-welterweight champion Scott Fitzgerald has told everyone that "everything is going to be ok" following worrying images of him snapped on the streets seemingly high n drugs and passed out on the pavement.
The 29-year-old appeared to be in a desperate state but he has released a statement on Facebook simply stating, "I had an exhausting day haha no lie I'd had a 10/15 min straightener with an absolute rabbit of a southpaw traveller half an hour before on Ashton Park."
He tried to explain away his shocking state passed out on the streets outside a pub by explaining he had a street fight with a gypsy.
He went on to say, "I'm sorry to worry my Dad and Mum but that is the only thing I'm sorry for. I took a bloddy nap outside my beloved Wheatsheaf. Everything is going to be ok you squirrels."
In March 2020, his father Dave shared details of his son falling on troubled times and having to seek help in Tony Adams’ Sporting Chance Clinic in a bid to knock out his problems with gambling, drugs and alcohol.
It was around this time that he was arrested on suspicion of assault in the Ryelands Crescent area in Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston and was subsequently suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control.
His father admitted that his son had told him he’d been taking drugs since he was 12 years old, “Scott has an addictive personality, but I don’t think his mates want to see him succeed. I want him to be a decent human being.”
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has shared his concerns and promised his full support: "Scott went into rehab over a year ago. We hoped he was moving in the right direction. What we saw today shocked the life out of me. We're gonna make sure we convince him to get helpnow. We'll be doing everything we can do to help."
