Sam Maxwell faces Connor Parker in first defence of WBO European strap he won under extreme circumstances
Maxwell and Parker both 12-0
Sam Maxwell will put his WBO European super-lightweight title on the line against fellow undefeated fighter Connor Parker in Birmingham on November 30.
Defending champion Maxwell (12-0, 10 KOs) takes on Midlands Area champion Parker (12-0, 1 KO) at the Arena Birmingham, on a Queensberry Promotions show live on BT Sport.
Maxwell became a viral sensation in March after his last-gasp knockout win over Sabri Sediri became a social media hit, but the Liverpool star is hoping for less drama in his upcoming clash with Parker.
The unbeaten 30-year-old was dropped twice by the Tunisian-born Frenchman during their 10-round contest, who then began showboating in the final round, confident of the impending win, before the heavy-hitting London-born Liverpudlian landed an overhand right to deck the braggart and win by TKO with just seconds to go.
Despite millions of YouTube videos, it's something he is not willing to repeat.
He said:“I want to be entertaining and have a good win, but I don’t particularly want to go viral in pulling out a win from the brink of defeat again!
“After I won my title in the way I did, I really captured a lot of people’s hearts and I think everyone who was watching wanted me to get the knockout.
“The fact I did so late on after some tough sections of the fight gained a lot of people’s respect and admiration. Since then I fought in June on a great MTK Global Liverpool card and got a routine knockout win.
“My promoter Frank Warren has said to me that he will deliver outside the ring and he has faith I will deliver inside, and that’s what I plan to do.”
