Undercard Highlights
The brilliant British light heavyweight champion Dan Azeez (15-0, 10KOs) will be on display. The rising star from Lewisham has won Southern Area, English and British light heavyweight titles, so if he continues to complete the set, then he'd be expected to face Frenchman Mathieu Bauderlique (21-1, 12KOs) for his EBU European belt soon. First of all though, he has to defend his Lonsdale belt against an opponent yet to be confirmed.
Background
Someone's '0' has got to go in this Battle of Britain which will see a former British king takes on ex-English ruler. Walworth's Riakporhe, 32, is looking to gain momentum towards a world title shot, while Chelsea's Jumah, also 32, is looking for a career-best win to breakout from the rest of the British pack.
What have they said?
Riakporhe: “The Midnight Train is on a roll and I’m not letting anything stop me in my tracks. I’m pulling into Wembley Arena once again on March 26 and I’m coming with all the smoke. This one is going to be a treat for the fans.”
Jumah: “I'd actually been watching Riakporhe online a couple of weeks ago. We have all the tools needed to pick Richard apart and stop him – and this is what’s happening on the 26th. I've seen loads of weaknesses in him and loads of flaws. Fans will see why I've been the most avoided fighter on these shores for so long. They will see that some fighters just need their opportunity. They’ll see why I've been saying I’m the best cruiserweight in the country for so many years. This is my time now!”
BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom: “Richard Riakporhe has shown great progress from fight to fight and he’s on track to secure a world title shot this year. With Turchi pulling out I think it says a lot about his character that he’s willing to take on an unbeaten domestic test like Deion Jumah. It’s a great fight for the fans and it’s a challenge Riakporhe must overcome to achieve his dreams and fulfil his potential.”
Predictions
Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: “This is a great match-up and kudos to both unbeaten boxers for taking this fight and risking their perfect records. I have a lot of respect for them in doing this, but we should be seeing this a lot more in boxing. For the winner, there's a huge step forward for their career. The loser will have to rebuild but I'm sure that won't be a long road back for them. I feel like Riakporhe has proven he is above British level already, so I think my money would be on him to win this.”
