Trevor Bryan vs Daniel Dubois – Who wins and why?
New Yorker Trevor Bryan (22-0, 15KO) and Londoner Daniel Dubois (17-1, 16KO) square off for the WBA 'Regular' World heavyweight title this Saturday, June 11 in Miami.
From Greenwich, 24-year-od 'Dynamite' Dubois is the interim champion with the WBA, and he is aiming to travel 4,400 miles to upgrade that belt to a 'Regular' world title, currently held by Trevor 'The Dream' Bryan.
The bookies are backing the Brit to do the business at 6/1, but what do our boxing professionals think:
Joe Neale
Boxing Matchmaker
"It’s a solid fight, Don King has really backed Trevor Bryan here. Have a bit of insight with few contacts in the Florida gyms and they say Bryan is very tough and durable. I expect Dubois to win and probably stop him but wouldn’t be surprised if Bryan hangs in there for later rounds, he is limited but has solid skills. Dubois has improved with Shane McGuigan and expect a career best performance, but it’s in Bryan backyard so he may take his time.
Dubois in round 10."
Ace Adam
Unbeaten super-middleweight
"I'm gonna go with Daniel Dubois. I thik he's the younger, fresher man, but at the same time he has to work off what he's built up so far, so he needs to be smart in this fight.
Bryan is very experienced so Dubois has to stick behind his jab, work effectively and work smart, don't just go off on his power punching, because we know Daniel can hit hard.
So, yeah, I'm going with Daniel Dubois."
Jazza Dickens
British champion & world title contender
"Daniel Dubois to win by knockout."
Erol Ceylan
Promoter
"I think it will be a big KO in first round. I cannot see how Bryan can fight with Dubois."
Matt Marsh
Former British champion
"I think Daniel Dubois late stoppage or on points."
Boma Brown
Heavyweight debutant
"I'm going with Dubois, he's the younger, fresher man and ultimately I think he will have too much for Bryan.
I can see it being cagey in the first or second round, but as soon as Dubois lands his right hand, I'll be very surprised if Bryan still wants to know after that."

"Bryan doesn't appear to be a very credible champion from what I have seen of him. He has scored knockdowns in all his world championship contests, but that was against a blown-up cruiserweight in BJ Flores; a 42-year-old Bermane Stiverne, who was long past it; and an unknown commodity in Jonathan Guidry, who hadn't fought anyone of note prior to that undeserved world title shot.
I have watched a bit of footage of Bryan and I'm struggling to find anything that suggests he is capable of beating Dubois. Perhaps I'm being harsh because he does possess an amateur background, taking part in Golden Gloves tournaments over 10 years ago, and he is still unbeaten in 22 contests as a pro, which takes some doing.
However, I seriously think Dubois is a level above and already defeated better opponents than Bryan in his career. I'm backing Dubois to destroy this champion in just a round or two."
Uros Djikanovic

"I think that Daniel Dubois will win this fight. Trevor is strong opponent but I think Daniel is better boxer and I think he will become the new WBA regular champion."

"Back in January last year, Deontay Wilder’s old dance partner Bermane Stiverne was put to sleep against Bryan within sixty-five seconds of the opening round. Stiverne failed to move his head and feet during their brief encounter, suffering the consequence of Bryan’s menacing right hand in exchange.
Since switching to trainer Shane McGuigan, Daniel Dubois is said to have become a little less bulky and a little more mobile. Some have erred concerns with this intervention, fearing it will shoehorn an incompatible style for Dubois, rendering him vulnerable under fire whilst hindering his most valuable attributes.
However, if Joe Joyce’s relentless thudding jab was the lesson that prompted McGuigan to focus on Dubois’s ability to get out the way of punches, then not many would pose an argument. But if improved footwork and head movement can be incorporated into Daniel’s game without losing anything in return, then a quick moving target with a solid jab and knockout power will be a dangerous prospect for Trevor Bryan come Saturday night."
