Reece Mould vs Leigh Wood – Who wins and why?
English ruler Mould and Commonwealth champ Wood clash for British featherweight title
Undefeated English featherweight champion Reece Mould (13-0, 6KOs) clashes with Leigh Wood for the vacant British Featherweight Title on the Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara undercard on Saturday February 13, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
The Lonsdale belt was recently vacated by long-reigning holder Ryan Walsh, who gives his opinion on who wins his title below, along with BBN's other trusted experts:
Ryan WalshFormer British featherweight champion
"Leigh Wood, experience will be key. This will be Wood's second attempt at a British title and I fancy he’ll be the winner on points."
Jazza Dickens IBF & WBO European featherweight champion
"Leigh is a top fighter and will finally get his British title!
Possibly KO 3-8 rounds."
Raza HamzaUnbeaten featherweight
"I know both fighters very well, I boxed Reece in the ABAs and Leigh I’ve spent time with in Japan sparring Naoya Inoue!
For me, Leigh Wood wins, possibly by KO; this man has waited a long time for this and is very dedicated, he also punches very hard and has a high boxing IQ.
Great fight and good luck to both but I’m routing for Leigh. KO 5-8."
Davey Oliver JoyceTwo-weight WBO European champion
"I think Leigh Wood wins this one. Going to be a really tough night for both men, but I think Leigh Wood has the beating of him."
Brad StrandUnbeaten super-bantamweight
"Probably go with Leigh Wood for this fight, more for the fact I haven’t seen much of Reece Mould, who has less experience."
Nick BallUnbeaten featherweight
"I'm not too sure on this one because I haven't seen too much of either of them, to be honest. All I know is that I want the winner for sure!"
Ben Davies Global Boxing News Editor
"I would go Leigh Wood by stoppage, feel like his hard hitting style could put Mould under pressure from the first bell."
Tim Rickson BBN Editor
"I like Reece Mould, he seems dedicated and down to earth and I think he'll be going into this title fight as the underdog.
I'm fully aware that this is a big step up in levels for him, but I think that with his setup, being able to train daily with Josh Warrington, could give him the edge over Leigh Wood, who is coming into the fight following a loss.
Wood's experience in these big fights, his second attempt at the British title, current Commonwealth champion… I think it's likely all of this experience will win the fight for him, he's clearly the favourite. He was 11-0 when he first fought for the British title against Gavin McDonnell and lost, so if he does win, then 13-0 Reece Mould will be able to take note from Wood and come good again.
I think this should be a really good battle, which I hope Mould will win. Then I'd like to Nick Ball get his chance at the Lonsdale belt next."
