Boxing brothers Peter and Joe McGrail march on unbeaten
19-year-old Joe McGrail (3-0, 2KOs) was up first, in fight four of the Probellum event at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Friday night, April 22nd.
Up against Liverpool-based journeyman Mohammed Al-Warith (0-3), McGrail made short work of his Yemen-born opponent by stopping him in just 91 seconds.
Joe had Mohammed trapped in the corner, whipping in shots to head and body with spite, shifting feet to make use of better angles, until Al-Warith managed to move to his left, where McGrail promptly followed and kept him on the ropes. An overhand right staggered Al-Warith backwards, where he followed up with a series of body shots until referee John Latham stepped in at 1:31 or the first round. McGrail simple did not give his opponent a moment to breathe in that brief one-sided fight.
Post-fight, Joe said: “I was very pleased, it was another great night for the family and the city. I'm just looking to get back out as soon as possible to keep the ball rolling.”
In chief support to the main event, Peter McGrail (4-0, 3KOs) was opposing WBO Oriental title contender Uriel Lopez (15-18-1, 7KOs) in his first eight-rounder.
However, he didn't need all eight rounds, overwhelming the Mexican to stop him short in round four.
The 2020 Olympian sent a statement to the rest of the super-bantamweight division after recording a third straight stoppage win, with yet another masterful display.
Peter said: “I am going to keep getting better and better and hopefully, in the future, there will be some big nights coming to Liverpool. We’re the next stock coming through, and we will be bringing world titles back to this city.”
Probellum’s Sam Jones added: “That was a great decision by the referee to stop the fight, Lopez was taking a lot of damage. This guy will be selling this arena out very, very soon and he will win world titles in numerous weight divisions. Get behind Peter McGrail – what a fighter!”
