Champion Panya Pradabsri can't defend WBC title after falling ill
The World Boxing Council straw-weight champion, Panya Pradabsri, will not be able to defend his title on April 16 in Tokyo, since he has unfortunately been hospitalised with strep throat and an escalating fever.
Pradabsri (39-1, 22KOs) was set to face Yudai Shigeoka (6-0, 4KOs), defending the WBC straw title he first claimed in a November 2020 points victory over former champion Wanheng Menayothin.
The 32-year-old from Bangkok outpointed his compatriot in a rematch followed by a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Japan’s Norihito Tanaka on August 31 in Thailand.
The WBC wished their champion a full and speedy recovery.
