Panya Pradabsri defeats Wanheng Menayothin all over again
Straw-weight World Boxing Council champion Panya Pradabsri defeated compatriot and former world champion Wanheng Menayothin by a surprisingly large and lopsided unanimous margin, in a highly anticipated rematch at City Hall Ground in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand.
At the self same spot, Pradabsri surprisingly ended Menayothin’s long reign, claiming a closer decision victory in their November 2020 bout, which was fought behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
Pradabsri, five years younger and two inches taller, started the fight a tad slow and standing back, so accordingly Menayothin tried to press the advantage and take the initiative.
However, Pradabsri proved the more effective. Open scoring, used in WBC title fights, indicated that the fight was initially close. After four rounds, 38-38 on two scorecards, while Menayothin led 39-37 on the other.
Pradabsri appreciably upped the pace and began to exploit range more effectively to make a point and gain them.
After eight, cards Pradabsri was pulling away, leading 78-74, 78-74 and 77-75.
Menayothin grimly tried to swing it back, but the younger man kept his cool and his boxing together.
Judges Carlos Costa, Pongpan Rattanasutorn and Visuth Yingaupagarn scored for Pradabsri (117-111). He successfully defended his title for the second time.
