Oto Joseph crowned ABU champion at Independence bash
Nigerian Oto Joseph (19-1, 9KOs) defeated Ghanaian Tackie Annan (13-8, 12KOs) to win the African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight title.
The fight was very entertaining from start to finish with both fighters maintaining an impressive work rate. Annan had won five from his last six bouts – all via KO. The 29-year-old from Ghana has won all but one of his victories by KO.
Also 29, 'Joe Boy' managed to avoid that power to retain the title he first won in 2017. This was a third successful defence of the ABU lightweight belt for the Lagos man.
The bout took place at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana. It was part of a huge sellout card presented by Box Office Sports Promotions to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
