Potential unification match between Valdez and Stevenson almost finalised
The teams of super featherweight champions, Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson, are in advanced negotiations to reach agreement for a unification fight at 130 pounds, possibly for April 30 in Las Vegas, journalist Dan Rafael reports.
Valdez holds the WBC super featherweight title, while Stevenson has the WBO belt.
Oscar, 31, who is trained by Eddy Reynoso, captured the title by defeating countryman Miguel Berchelt with a stunning 10th-round knockout on February 20. In his most recent fight, he had some difficulty defeating tough Brazilian fighter Robson Conceicao (16-1, 8KOs) by unanimous decision.
The 24-year-old Stevenson (17-0, 9KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medallist, outclassed Jamel Herring with his speed and skill to win the WBO crown.
