Lerone Harrison proud to carry on father's legacy ahead of debut
Lerone Harrison plans on doing his late, great father Oliver Harrison proud ahead of his highly-anticipated professional debut on Friday's #MTKFightNight at York Hall in London.
This week's action-packed card will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and worldwide on IFL TV, and is headlined by a WBO Global super-featherweight title fight between Archie Sharp (20-0, 9 KOs) and Alexis Boureima Kabore (28-4, 7 KOs).
Iconic trainer Oliver Harrison coached some of the very best fighters the UK has ever produced before sadly passing away in 2019. They included Amir Khan, Martin Murray and Jamie Moore, and with Moore now in the corner of Lerone Harrison, the youngster wants to continue his father's legacy.
Harrison said:"I'm over the moon to be making my debut. It's been a dream since I was a kid to be fighting for a living, and that all starts on Friday.
"Of course I'm proud to be carrying on my dad's legacy. He was a legend to me and many others, and all I can hope is that I do him justice when I'm fighting.
"I've really enjoyed the transition from amateur to professional. Training with the professionals in the gym gives you such a boost in motivation, as you see how hard they work and you have to do the same.
"The gym is always good fun, and we have all been working on things individually and working together in sparring to improve the skills. Sean McGoldrick and Tursynbay Kulakhmet are on the same card as me, and Chantelle Cameron is the day after, so it's good that we are all fighting at the same time as we have have all been training as hard as each other.
"Fans should expect a good performance from me, but mainly the win. In the next 12 months I'm hoping to have had quite a few fights under my belts so I can start to see where my career is going to go."
Elsewhere on Friday's card, Tursynbay Kulakhmet defends his WBC International super-welterweight title against Juan Carlos Abreu, Pierce O'Leary takes on Siar Ozgul, Sam Gilley meets Daniel Lartey, Jordan Reynolds returns, Shiloh Defreitas makes his professional debut against Fonz Alexander, Sean McGoldrick fights Stephen Jackson, Will Hamilton squares off with Ivo Zednicek, and Joe Giles enters the paid ranks for the first time.
