Oleksandr Usyk out-landed Anthony Joshua 79-29 in trilling rematch
History-making Ukraininan boxer Oleksandr Usyk outlanded heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua to win their highly-anticipated August rematch.
Usyk out-threw Joshua 712 – 492, and out-landed him by 170 – 124.
During the exhilarating 10th round Usyk landed an incredible 39 punches on Anthony Joshua, which is more success than anyone has ever managed against the former two-time world champion.
AJ only managed to outland Usyk in three of the 12 rounds, yet American judge, Glenn Feldman, score the contest 115-113 to the Brit. He was confronted after the bout to explain his scorecard, stating "That's how I saw it."
Usyk completely dominated the final three championship rounds, yet Feldman scored the final round to AJ, even though he was outpunched 17 – 9.
Joshua came into this fight landing 12.4 of 39.2 punches per round. In this fight, Joshua averaged 10 and 41. Usyk came into this bout landing 15.5 of 50 punches per round (31%) as a heavyweight. In this fight, Usyk averaged 14 and 59.
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – In a highly anticipated heavyweight rematch, Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) overcame some tough moments to win a twelve round split decision over Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) to retain the WBO, IBF, WBA, IBO world titles.
The scores were 115-113 for Joshua, 115-113 for Usyk, and 116-112 for Usyk.
Last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture unified crown. Afterwards, Joshua would exercise an immediate rematch clause.
And it was the champion's remarkable final three rounds which saw him clinch the win.
After a breathtaking ninth round saw Joshua rock Usyk and land 28 punches to the Ukrainian's nine, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion came out for the 10th and dismantled all hope of a British victory.
Usyk landed 39 punches in the 10th round – the highest number any fighter has ever landed on Joshua over three minutes.
And he then went on to land a further 23 in the 11th and 17 in the final round to secure the stunning victory.
