Sergey Lapin claims "Tyson Fury talks garbage… he chose the safer option"
Assistant coach of world champion boxer Oleksandr Usyk, Sergey Lapin, told MyBettingSites blog that Tyson Fury swerved the unification bout with Usyk in favour of the "safer option" of Dillian Whyte.
Lapin also claimed the outspoken colourful character, known to fans as 'The Gypsy King', talks '80% verbal garbage'. He also added that Anthony Joshua should have stepped aside and taken compensation as he does not have time to learn anything new before the rematch with his latest victor, Usyk, who is preparing for the same AJ as before, perhaps a little more aggressive.

Sergey Lapin: Tyson Fury talks garbage… he chose Dillian Whyte – the safer option
The Chief Officer of promotional company Usyk 17 Promotions said, “Usyk is always ready for any challenger, he was one of the first who agreed to hold a unification against Tyson Fury. I heard that Joshua wasn't against receiving the compensation either to allow the unification. But suddenly something went wrong, it seems to me that Tyson Fury and his team chose a much safer option for themselves – a fight with Dillian White."
The 33-year-old expanded, “More than 80% of the information coming from Tyson Fury is verbal garbage to attract attention and to promote boxing fights, he also tries to get into the heads of his rivals with his words, as he did with Deontay Wilder. But such a story, like comparing Usyk to Tomasz Adamek, will not work with Usyk – nothing like this will affect Usyk’s psychology.”
Lapin formerly trained with Usyk under the guidance of his fater and respected Ukraine coach, Sergey Yurevich Lapin. He won a national championship in 2013 and had just one professional fight in 2017, which he won on points 40-33, scoring three knockdowns in the process.
He discussed the orthcoming AJ-Usyk rematch expected to take place in May, “Usyk is now looking forward to the fight with Joshua because it's the next step towards his goal and dream of winning all the titles in the glamour division. In the near future, the promoters will decide on the venue of the boxing match, most likely it will be in London, and Alexander will consolidate his standing in the heavyweight division when he achieves a second victory over AJ.
“Compensation for Joshua to step aside would have been a better option as he would have had more time to correct his mistakes and prepare for the fight. Joshua is a strong guy, he has been boxing for a long time, he has fought some serious opponents, but as far as the rematch goes, Joshua will not learn anything new in four months, no matter how many new coaches there are in his camp.”
He then gave his prediction for the rematch, “I think Joshua will change his fighting strategy towards a more aggressive style, but will he be able to maintain this pace, will his conditioning be enough for this? We will only be able to see in the ring.
"That's the essence of boxing, not only big muscles and size playing a role here, it's very important how your boxing IQ works and how quickly you make decisions. Usyk will be preparing for the same Joshua, taking into account the mistakes of the previous fight.”
