Donaire KOs Gaballo with a body shot
WBC World Bantamweight Champion, Filipino Nonito Donaire (42-6, 28KOs), successfully defended his crown by knocking out his compatriot Reymart Gaballo (24-1, 20KOs) in the fourth round, in the main event of a card that took place this Saturday, at the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California.
Donaire, 39, ended the fight with a powerful left hook to the liver and a follow up right.
Gaballo, who was visibly in discomfort went to the canvas as a result of that crushing pinpoint blow.
Gaballo who took a knee, listened to Referee Ray Corona’s count. On his haunches, he tried to get up, but again put the glove on the floor, wincing and unable to recover.
Donaire boxed patiently, brilliantly and expertly up to that point, as Gaballo fired in some lightning left jabs. Donaire replied with some well chosen heavy rights.
Then came the conclusion, and Gaballo was counted out at 2:59 minutes of the fourth round Donaire knelt to comfort the fallen boxer, with great sportsmanship.
With this victory, Donaire improved his extraordinary evergreen record to 42-6, with 28 knockouts, while Gaballo fell to 24-1, with 20 knockouts.
For Donaire, this was the first defence of the WBC bantamweight crown, which he won by knocking out former champion Nordine Oubaali.
