Anthony Joshua reportedly earns over £200k per punch
Two British boxers make the top 10 lucrative list
Boxers at the very highest level in the sport are amongst the best paid athletes in the world, with the biggest stars taking home millions for just one night in the ring.
But new research reveals just how much the world’s best boxers make for every punch that they land on their opponents in a match.
The list is impressive, at a glance, but it doesn't reflect the many years of hard work taken to reach the pinnacle, which is then, and only then, the fighter can earn life-changing money. But when they do reach this altitude, the financial gains are almost monstrous!
Researchers looked at some of the highest-earning fights in boxing history and divided the estimated earnings for each fighter by the number of punches they landed on their opponent during the fight.
The top 10 boxers making the most profit per punch are:
Rank | Boxer | Earnings | Punches Landed | Earnings per Punch |
1 | Conor McGregor | £65,450,000 | 111 | £589,640 |
2 | Floyd Mayweather Jr. | £622,930,000 | 1,831 | £340,213 |
3 | Mike Tyson | £13,475,000 | 49 | £275,000 |
4 | Anthony Joshua | £77,385,000 | 353 | £219,221 |
5 | Wladimir Klitschko | £15,400,000 | 94 | £163,830 |
6 | Oscar de la Hoya | £56,210,000 | 375 | £149,893 |
7 | Manny Pacquiao | £204,820,000 | 1,609 | £127,296 |
8 | Ricky Hatton | £7,700,000 | 63 | £122,222 |
9 | Canelo Álvarez | £40,040,000 | 419 | £95,561 |
10 | Sugar Ray Leonard | £20,790,000 | 267 | £77,865 |
Two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua is set to rise further up in this list when he defends his WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO titles to IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in his next fight on Saturday, December 12, on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
Lawrence Okolie will take on Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO Cruiserweight World Title on the undercard.
