Nathan Gorman vs Tomas Salek
10×3 IBF International heavyweight title
Gorman's cousin Tyson Fury takes his seat in the arena next to promoter Kalle Sauerland for the fight.
25 from Nantwich, Gorman begins the fight with two left hooks and is throwing three punch combinations within the first 15 seconds. A chopping right hand to the temple downs Salek within the first minute, then he is down again moments later, and when he rises he is on shaky legs and the fight is stopped within the first half of the first round.
It was an incredibly quick victory, the time registered at just 1:21 of the opening round.
Gorman lifts the IBF Internatonal title, a belt formerly held by Kubrat Pulev, Oscar Rivas and Filip Hrgovic. That's three wins on the spin for Gorman since his sole defeat to Daniel Dubois three years ago now. Although the opponent tonight did not look like much, he is a national champion with 17 wins from 20 bouts prior to this fight. Credit goes to Gorman for his aggression and attitude to finish the fight early, however this outing will not offer adequate preparation for any big future fights.
Post-fight, Gorman beamed, "I'm very happy, a new belt as well. Tyson said to me afterwards 'That's how you do it!' Only way is up!"
Kalle Sauerland added, "That belt will give us a top 15 ranking and he's only 25-years-old. Tyson has a great story but Nathan will write his own story. We will see when put him out next but it will be very soon, we're looking at September."
Josh Kelly vs Peter Kramer
10×3 Super-welterweight contest
Hungary's Kramer took a short right hook to the temple midway through the opener that shook his legs slightly. Sunderland's Kelly threw a flurry of punches sensing an early finish but relented when he saw his opponent had recovered well.
'Pretty Boy' Kelly is boxing nicely, landing lots of jabs, using it as a range-finder and rhythm-breaker, but suffers a cut under his left eye, caused by a punch, which is going to give him something to think about.
In the third segment, Kelly again landed a flurry of unanswered blows after increasing succes but was mindful of not expending too much energy too early and took his foot of the gas. Kramer has very little to offer in return, but he's stil there.
Kramer got caught with a big left hook in the first minute of the fourth and his legs wobbled from beneath him. The 32-year-old Budapest boxer survived the ensuing onslaught, even given a short break to recover from a low blow, but when the action resumed, just a few short uppercuts were enough for referee John Latham to stop the contest.
Kramer was still standing and seemed fit to carry on but what would have been the point? The Hungarian had challenged for his country's national middleweight title twice, both times ending in a draw, but he was out of his depth against former Olympian Kelly, who has beaten an ex-world champion already in Carlos Molina and was Boxing Writers' Club's Young Boxer of the Year in 2018.
