Naoya Inoue seeks to unify the bantamweight division
WBC, IBF and WBA bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue, fights WBO bantamweight champion Paul Butler, on Tuesday, December 13 at a venue to be defined in Japan.
The Japanese star will attempt to win all four titles against the Brit, and he is the overwhelming favourite. If he wins, he would be the first undisputed bantamweight champion in almost 50 years. Panamanian Enrique Pinder held the undisputed WBA, WBC, The Ring bantamweight titles between July 1972 to January 1973.
Inoue (23-0, 20 KOs) captured the WBC bantamweight title with a second-round TKO victory over Filipino legend Nonito Donaire in a rematch last June.
So, the “Monster” Inoue will have the opportunity to face the 33-year-old Butler, who won the title defeating Jonas Sultan.
Butler has posted eight straight wins since a 2018 decision loss to Emmanuel Rodriguez.
