Naoya Inoue vs Nonito Donaire II
Round 1: First punch – a left hook – is landed by Donaire. 10 years his senior, Inoue has his hands held high for the first minute, perhaps wary of the damage he sustained so early on in their first fight. The Japanese man's jab is looking very sharp, lands big in the second minute. The rivals are feeling each other out, but Nonito comes forward with a right hook, misses, Inoue counters nicely. With a minute to go, Donaire lands a nice right hand. Big shots then rain in from both boxers in the final minute. Unified champ Inoue sticks with his jab, then floors Donaire with a huge right hand out of nowhere in the closing seconds of the opener. By the time the count was finished, the bell rang immediately.
The replay of the knockdown looked very impressive and clever indeed. It appeared Inoue feinted with his left, so Donaire then expected a left hook to come in and was open to a weighty right hand flush on the cheek.
Round 2: Inoue comes out fiercely with a big hooks. Then Inoue reels off combinations, four straight shots, sensing blood already. Donaire fires back with single shots in defence. Inoue mixes attacks to land to the body too. Nonito battles back but a short left hook in close range lands so heavily it wobbles his rival's legs but remarkably managed to stay up, however it was clear that Donaire's legs are gone, so then Inoue closes in for the kill, landing a couple of heavy one-twos, then finishes him with a swift left hook in the corner, which was off the end of the second one-two.
Whil the Filipino was down, the bell rang out to end proceedings within a couple of seconds. The 'Monster' completely destroyed 'The Filipino Flash' and ends the contest at just 1:24 in the second round.
Now the WBC, WBA, IBF, Ring Magazine World bantamweight champion, there's only one belt left to complete the set… the WBO that's currently in the hands of Liverpool's Paul Butler.
