Waseem crowned WBC Silver champion
Pakistani Muhammad Waseem (12-1, 8KOs) defeated Colombian Rober Barrera (23-4, 13KOs) by unanimous decision, in a very demanding fight, to conquer the vacant Silver Flyweight title of the World Boxing Council, at the Motospace Dubai Investment Park, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The fight was intense, with good rounds for each fighter and at times it seemed that Barrera could even be stopped, but at the end of the contest, the victory went to Waseem with close cards of 115-113, 115-114 and 117-111.
The first rounds were fairly even, but from the fifth round onwards, Waseem appreciably upped the tempo. The World title contender is known as 'The Falcon' for his swift style of boxing.
With this victory, Waseem improved his record to 12-1. His sole career defeat was to IBF World flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane in 2018. Despite scoring an 11th round knockdown, Waseem was beaten by unanimous decision.
