Mitchell Smith splits amicably with Adam Booth to team up with Barry Smith
The former Southern Area, English and WBO Inter-Continental super-featherweight champion has teamed up with Barry Smith at West Ham Boxing Gym.
The talented youngster from Harrow joins his younger brother Jez there, an unbeaten welterweight who fights for the Southern Area title on February 16.
The 26-year-old announced the news on social media, "So after a long hard think I decided to start training over at the West Ham boxing gym with Barry Smith as a coach and alongside my brother Jez Smith.
"My split with Adam Booth has not left a bitter taste with either of us, he understood it was too much for me to get there and back with such a young family.
"I can't thank Adam for what he has done for me in and out the ring and I love him to bits. I will miss the lads in Booth's gym but boxing is a sport to think about number one.
So I join forces with Barry and the boys down West Ham, I look forward to hitting the highs with you all. I will be a world champion."
He originally joined esteemed trainer Adam Booth in May 2016, enjoying two facile wins when rebuilding following his sole career defeat to George Jupp before disaster struck when an incident in a pub ultimately confined him to prison for seven months for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) with intent, and Affray. The fighter also saw his boxing license suspended, as is typical in situations like this.
Since then, he has grown up, wised up, founded his own gym and now looks ahead to a long-awaited ring return in 2019 – his last fight was in May 2017 – with a new team in the corner.
