Mickey Ellison puts on a good performance away from home against Radivoje Kalajdzic
Darwen's Mickey Ellison dared to be great against world top 15 fighter
Traveling over 4,250 miles to Plant City in Florida, Blackburn boxer Mickey Ellison (14-5, 5KO) rolled the dice against world title contender Radivoje Kalajdzic (28-2, 20KO).
In an action packed fight, which had the US crowd on their feet, many giving plaudits to the visitor and even cheering for Mickey “The Caveman”, who landed some heavy shots against his world class opponent. The Central Area light-heavyweight champion wasn't there to just make up the numbers, he gave it a good go against an opponent who has only been convincingly beaten by Artur Beterbiev.
The fight commentary, live on ProBox TV, was very impressed and complimentary towards the Englishman, who was expected to be blown away by the Belgrade-born boxer who has 14 first-round KOs on his record.
Ellison had a very positive seventh round, but was caught in the eighth with a flash right hand and took a count. He bravely got back to his feet but was caught again by his world class opponent, the referee stepping in to stop the contest.
Mickey only started boxing nine years ago in white collar events and set himself the goal of winning an Area title, which he did in July last year. He has managed to surpass his expectations by challenging for an English title, headlining in America, and defending his Central Area belt to an unbeaten prospect on a Matchroom Boxing show, live on DAZN.
