Michael Magnesi vs Ayrton Gimenez
Michael “Lone Wolf” Magnesi (22-1, 13KO) is preparing for the first defense of his WBC Silver super featherweight world title against undefeated Nike Theran (18-0, 7KO) on October 27 in Rome, Italy.
The 28-year-old Italian boxer, born in Palestrina, Rome, has a legion of fans behind him. He conquered the coveted championship last March against the Argentinian Ayrton Gimenez and now defends his laurels for the first time against Nike “La Promesa” Theran, a 26-year-old Colombian born in Barranquilla, but who has lives and trains in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Managed by Harry Polanco Peralta, the 26-year-old Colombian is a former WBC Latino champion, upsetting the odds abroad against Osvaldo Cabrera Santana to win the title within two rounds. He hasn't fought all year, however, and his clash with Magnesi will be his first fight in 11 months.
“It will be a fundamental step and a chariot of fire for Michael”, insists his promoter, wife and boss Alessandra Branco. “He is in 9th position in the WBC ranking. A win will mean he reaches the top 5 and then the battle strategy for the Green and Gold belt, currently held by the American O’Shaquie Foster. But right here and now, we need to concentrate only on the defense on October.
“Before we chose and settled upon Theran, we contacted at least eight other boxers present in the WBC ratings, but for various reasons nobody agreed to fight Michael. We then spotted the Colombian, a solid, undefeated and also heavy-punching athlete who loves to switch at close range.
“Considering Michael’s hitting skills, these are ideal characteristics to bring the match to our battlefield!”
Magnesi has already started training like a trojan, under the watchful eye of Maestro Gesumino Aglioti and of the multiple world champion Silvio Branco, who has been following his technical and athletic prowess for some time now.The limelight beckons… “Finally, we will see Michael on international television”, anticipates Alessandra Branco. “As soon as the final details gell, we will communicate both the Roman location and the television that will highlight it.”
The undercard is yet to be announced. Tickets will soon be available online on the platform boxol.it.
The card is organized by A&B Events and the Magnesi Boxing Team of promoter Alessandra Branco with the Italian Boxing Federation and the World Boxing Council.
