Michael Gomez Jr slams Sufyaan Ahmed for putting Central Area title showdown at risk
Michael Gomez Jr (14-1, 4KOs) blasted bitter rival Sufi Ahmed (5-2) for failing to make weight ahead of their clash for the vacant Central Area Super Featherweight Title on November 5.
The pair were set to battle it out at at Tottenham Hotspur FC’s Banqueting Hall live on Fightzone as chief support to the Hannah Rankin vs Maria Lindberg double world title fight headliner, but now that hangs in the balance as Ahmed will be given two hours to make the championship limit or forfeit the right to challenge for the vacant title.
An enraged Gomez Jr. told Fightzone TV, "I've been stood there for an hour for a man that's turned up late and then turned up two-pound overweight. It's a joke mate! This bum turns up overweight, he's getting absolutely punished tomorrow. He's a scared stiffless little bitch. Pathetic mate, he's getting absolutely hammered!"
The Manchester man only recently stated that he could do whatever he pleases with his 135-pound rival and he reiterated that again, "I was gonna' play with him but now I'm just gonna' go for him. He's getting the same treatment that last idiot got [referring to former opponent Jahfibus Faure, who was KO'd in four] 'cos that's all he is – an idiot.
The 26-year-old believed the fight wuld still go ahead as planned despite the discrepancy, "He's got to fight, he can't go home now. Come in at 10stone if he wants, needs to come in heavier for his sake! If he comes in light, he's getting destroyed. Doesn't matter what weight he's coming in at, he's getting hammered anyway."
Michael Gomez Jr. is the son of Michael Gomez, a former British super-featherweight champion, who won the Lonsdale belt outright in the early 2000's. His last two losses in 48-fight career were to up-and-coming prospects Amir Khan and Ricky Burns in 2008 and 2009. The first title he won in his career was the Central Area featherweight belt, which was back in 1999, so it means a great deal to his son to win this title.
