WBC Flyweight Status – October 2023
The World Boxing Council confirms Julio Cesar Martinez (20-2, 15KO) is now the sole flyweight champion of the WBC as McWilliams Arroyo (21-4, 16KO) has declined to fight Martinez consequently vacating his interim championship.
Martinez and Arroyo were set to meet countless times before their Technical Draw which resulted from an accidental headbutt. The fight was set for May 5th on the undercard of Canelo vs John Ryder, but Puerto Rican Arroyo did not accept to fight in Mexico.
They were set to meet this coming December as the result of a purse bid but Arroyo will not honour such fight, so he has lost his privileges and interim world championship.
