Mauro Forte wins in round one
Unbeaten Italian Mauro Forte (18-0-2, 8KO) wins the vacant European featherweight title with a stunning first round knockout in a rematch with Francesco Grandelli (16-2-2, 3KO) in Tivoli, Lazio.
Back in 2021, their first fight was declared a split decision draw. The pair are the No.1 and No.2 ranked featherweights in Italy.
But this time, Forte didn't let it go to the judges scorecards with a blisteringly fast stoppage.
During a bit of a standoff with Grandelli, Forte stepped forward placing his southpaw front foot on the outside of his orthodox opponent's left leg, dipped his head, then threw an overhand left that landed with a wallop, sending the recipient crashing to the canvas.
Grandelli bravely beat the count but the referee waved it off.
