The WBC pay tribute to Carlos Bremer
Carlos Bremer, a great friend of the World Boxing Council, sadly passed on Friday, January 5th at the age of 63, after being admitted to the hospital on Tuesday.
The Mexican native was present inside his office building at Bosques del Vallue, Nuevo Leon, when he became unwell after suffering a fainting spell.
The businessman from Monterrey was a devoted promoter of sports in Mexico and the world. He also had a great friendship with four-weight world champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, cheering him on at so many of his most important fights. Carlos was also close to former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz.
He dedicated his life to business and to supporting Mexican youth in sports and education, in addition to being one of the judges on the television program Shark Tank Mexico.
At the 57th WBC Annual Convention held in Cancun in 2019, he participated as a guest of honour during the opening ceremony.
In 2020, when the pandemic paused the world, Carlos Bremer joined in with the weekly WBC Talks – a virtual meeting, where he shared with all, his beginnings in the business world and also presented the film “108 Costuras”.
In 2022, together with world champions, Miguel Torruco and Mauricio Sulaimán, his participation was instrumental so that on the plateau of Mexico’s Zócalo, 14,299 people managed to successfully complete the largest boxing class in history, setting a Guinness World Record.
Carlos never imagined that destiny would lead him to venture into these fields; however, his passion for sports and success stories motivated him to be an enthusiastic promoter of many athletes.
Carlos will not only be remembered as one of the most successful Mexican businessmen, but also for his humanitarian heart, his boundless empathy and his passion for sports and stories of success and improvement.
The WBC and its President Mauricio Sulaiman, deeply mourn his passing and send their condolences to family, friends and people close to him, “Rest in Peace Dear Friend.”
Former American President Clinton also released a statement on tragic passing of Carlos Bremer, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend Carlos Bremer. He was a great business leader, a dedicated philanthropist, and a kind, good man who used his big heart and boundless generosity to give young people better opportunities and to make sports more accessible for all. My thoughts are with his family and everyone who loved him, in Mexico and around the world.”

A pioneer for business and sport aid
At the age of 19, he joined the brokerage firm of the Banpais group (owned by the Sada family) and participated in the founding of Abaco Casa de Bolsa.
In his professional career, he studied accounting at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
In 1993, he partnered with Javier Benitez Gomez to capitalize Value Grupo Financiero, a company that operates several companies in the financial sector.
He obtained the National Sports Award in 2017 for promoting the careers and sports projects over time. According to Ana Guevara, director of Conade, it is estimated that 53,000 athletes have benefited from the businessman's aid.
Among the most outstanding athletes is Mexican racquetball player and triple gold medalist Paola Longoria, who is widely regarded as the best in the world in her discipline.
In boxing, he assisted the careers of Juan Manuel Marquez, who won nine world titles before his retirement in 2014, and Saul 'Canelo' Álvarez, considered by many to be the best Mexican athlete in the sport today.
