Macaulay McGowan bravely battled on despite two knockdowns against Sergio Martinez
It wasn’t to be for Macaulay McGowan as he came up short in his fight with boxing legend Sergio Martinez on Thursday.
The two men went head to head at the Wizink Center in Madrid, Spain, with Martinez (55-3-2, 30 KOs) getting the better of the affair over the 10 rounds.
Trained by Joe Gallagher, McGowan (14-3-1, 3 KOs) showed incredible heart, getting up off the canvas twice to last the distance, but the judges scored it 98-90, 99-89, 99-89 in his favour to earn him the victory.
Despite the loss, McGowan gave it everything, and there was tremendous respect shown between the two men at the conclusion of the fight.
