Luigi Alfieri crowned WBC Mediterranean champion in Italy
On July 16, Italian Luigi Alfieri (10-3) improved his win column to double figures after defeating reigning Mediterranean champion Panagiolis Tsohataridis (11-1-1, 6KO), from Greece.
Despite being in excellent condition, undefeated titlist Tsohataridis had to the weather the onslaught of the inspired Italian challenger.
The Judges scored the fight 96-94 in favor of Luigi. It was a close fight, with non-stop action; however, it was the 27-year-old Italian who managed to be more effective in implementing his strategy in his first ever titlt fight.
From Abruzzo, Luigi was confirmed as the new WBC Mediterranean welterweight champion in Sequals, Italy, the town of the great historic Italian champion, Primo Carnera.
