Tommy Frank gets new opponent and new title prospect
Tommy Frank will now fight Harvey Horn for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Flyweight Title on December 11 at Sheffield Arena, after original opponent Kyle Yousaf tested positive for Covid-19.
Frank and Yousaf were due to contest the Lonsdale Belt but, with that bout scuppered, Frank didn’t need to be asked twice to face an arguably tougher test in Horn.
Promoter Dennis Hobson along with partner Steve Crump, and matchmaker Jason McCrory, have been absolutely determined to go ahead with the promotion – the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show – and are delighted that Horn will now be in the opposite corner, with all the action live on Eurosport.
Londoner Horn, undefeated at 8-0 (2), is rated as one of the UK’s best young prospects. The 25-year-old was a star amateur, a former ABA champion and Team GB member, and hasn’t put a foot wrong as a pro. In just two years, Harvey has racked up eight wins (two KOs) and, in his last fight in November, won the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) European Flyweight belt.
Highly-rated Frank, who will be on home turf in Sheffield, is also unbeaten in the pro ranks, at 13-0 (3). ‘Super’ Tommy knows all about collecting belts having already picked up Commonwealth, IBO and WBC fringe titles, and will now get to test his skills in an all-British encounter that will have fans split about who comes out on top.
“I feel really sorry for Kyle that he’s tested positive, but we couldn’t put the show back again, having already rearranged it once before,” explained Hobson. “The team here have put so much work into this December 11 date, it’s a great card, and we’re determined to give boxing fans something to cheer about by actually being able to attend a show this year. We also want to make history by hosting Britain’s first ever drive-in show.
“I really have to take my hat off to Tommy, he is a real fighter and had no hesitation in accepting Harvey Horn as a replacement. Plenty of people are saying that this is actually a harder fight than Yousaf; it’s a fantastic fight and I’m really excited and proud that we’ve managed to put it together. It’s a real test for both fighters, a genuine 50-50 between two British kids who are both world-rated, and a major boost for UK boxing.”
Dennis Hobson Promotions present an evening of boxing at Sheffield Arena on December 11, headlined by Tommy Frank and Harvey Horn contesting the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Flyweight Title.
Chief support sees Kane Salvin and Sufyaan Ahmed fight for the Central Area Super Featherweight belt. Also appearing will be Sheffield’s Perry Howe, Keanen Wainwright and Nathan Owen, Belfast’s Cathy McAleer, and Rotherham’s Kash Ali.
The action will be broadcast live by Eurosport.
